Citrus: the fastest way to make a space read clean

Citrus: the fastest way to make a space read clean

Citrus is the shortest path to clean. It needs no explanation, no learning curve and no context — a guest walks in, registers lemon, and concludes the space is fresh before consciously thinking about it. No other family works that fast.

It is also the family with the shortest memory, and that is the thing most buyers discover too late.

What is in this family

Five fragrances. Lemon is the most direct statement in the whole range: explosive citrus clarity with a polished finish. Citrus Eucalyptus adds an invigorating eucalyptus lift and is engineered specifically to stay out of the medicinal register, which is where most eucalyptus formulations end up. Verbena sits in a useful middle ground — brighter than a floral, softer than a straight citrus. White Tea & Lemon pairs the citrus signal with an upscale tea accord. And Serenity turns the family down rather than up: cool citrus-herbal clarity built to lower a guest's heart rate rather than raise it.

Where it belongs

Entrances, receptions, gyms, changing rooms, food and beverage areas, and anywhere odour control is an active daily problem rather than an occasional one. Citrus is the family that does real work against cooking smells, damp and gym odour, because it reads as cleaning without smelling like a cleaning product.

Serenity is the exception to all of that and belongs in spa reception and treatment-room approaches, where the brief is the opposite.

Where it stops working

Citrus molecules are the most volatile in perfumery. That is exactly why the family lands so fast, and exactly why it leaves fastest. In a guest room where nobody returns for six hours, a citrus accord applied at turndown may be effectively gone by the time it matters.

Ultra or Power for this family

This is the family where the choice matters most, and the answer runs against instinct. Everywhere else, Power is the sensible default for busy circulation. Here, the family's natural weakness is longevity, so Power compounds the problem: a lighter load of the most volatile materials in the range disappears quickly.

Use Ultra as the default for citrus in any occupied space, and keep Power for the places where the accord is being refreshed constantly anyway — gym entrances, changing rooms, service corridors on a tight housekeeping cycle. The full comparison is in Ultra and Power.

One application note

Whatever you choose here, spray onto the air return vent of the HVAC system rather than into open air. The fragrance is drawn into the airflow and distributed evenly across the whole space instead of concentrating wherever the housekeeper happened to be standing. This single change in technique does more for consistency than switching families does.

The other four families

Multisany is organised into five olfactive families. Each one answers a different question about a space, and most properties end up buying from two or three of them.

  • Fresh, Clean and Spa — The largest family and the one nobody complains about. Nine accords built to make a property read well run.
  • Bamboo, Green and Wood — One accord, built for interiors of leather, stone and blackened metal, where a floral works against the room.
  • Floral, Aromatic and Spa — Four accords formulated against the usual objection that floral in hospitality is too sweet and too dated.
  • Sweet, Warm and Gourmand — The family that goes wrong most often, and the reason two of its three accords exist only in Ultra.
